Vision in Action Cameroon
About US
Vision in Action Cameroon (VIAC) is a youth-led not-for-profit organization that supports and enables adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) and communities in programs and influences change in the areas of Research (Evidence Generation), Advocacy (community mobilization), information & communication. Through advocacy, creative activism, research, and development, VIAC is committed to feminist principles, using gender transformative and rights-based approaches.
OUR HISTORY
VIAC was founded by a group of 07 students in 2007 as Youth Club; carrying out peer education for college students with a primary focus on skills training and HIV prevention. After receiving training as peer educators for the “Pinch and Unroll” campaign, we decided to put the knowledge to valuable contributions in our society. We had a high prevalence rate of 11.0% of HIV infection in the Southwest region; we decided to register a voluntary group that will help in preventive information to young people.
the need to engage the Local and international community
We saw the need to address young people’s need for Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) and their increased access to information regarding their health and rights in Cameroon. Registered in November 2014 as an association under the Cameroonian law. VIAC works directly in communities engaging Local and international interns/volunteers to set up community actions in the five-pronged strategies; Research (Evidence Generation), Mobilizing communities, Advocacy, information & communication, and building partnerships.
VIAC is dedicated to developing and empowering adolescent girls and young women, sexual minorities, and other disadvantaged persons through information and skills training in advocacy, creative activism, research and development to make informed choices, grow into self-actualized persons capable of contributing towards a better society.
