Gender-based violence (GBV) deeply affects a woman's health, often worsening existing issues or creating new ones. Immediate, compassionate care, known as first-line support, is vital when a woman discloses violence. This support addresses her emotional, psychological, physical, and safety needs by providing non-judgmental, practical care, validating her experience, and listening without pressure. If a provider can't offer this care directly, they must ensure another qualified individual is available. The goal of first-line support is to offer all GBV survivors essential care that validates their experiences and supports their initial steps toward recovery.
