Strengthening Menstrual Health Dignity Among Sex Workers in South West Cameroon: Sang Pour Sang Project

Sex workers in the South West Region of Cameroon face persistent challenges managing menstruation due to stigma, limited access to menstrual products, unsafe working conditions, and social exclusion. The Sang Pour Sang (SPS) project, implemented by Vision in Action Cameroon (VIAC), delivered rights-based menstrual health dignity education to sex workers in hotspot communities in Limbe (Church Street) and Buea (Soppo).A pre–post intervention study conducted between November and December 2025 assessed changes in menstrual health knowledge and dignity-centered practices. Among the 39 participants who completed both assessments, knowledge increased from 76% at baseline to 95% post-intervention (p = 0.001), demonstrating a significant improvement across age groups and locations.

These results highlight the effectiveness of targeted, feminist-informed education in empowering sex workers to practice dignity-centered menstrual health. The findings also underscore the need to link menstrual health interventions with gender-based violence prevention and support services to address the vulnerabilities sex workers face.
