“This program has profoundly changed my behavior”
Engaging Men & Boys (2024). VIAC trained and mentored 57 boy peer educators in 8 secondary schools and 2 grassroots communities in the South West Region to promote menstrual health, reduce menstrual stigma and prevent sexual and gender-based violence – reaching 857 adolescent boys.
Hello, I am a peer educator for menstrual health management (MHM) and gender-based violence (GBV). Initially, I felt out of place, thinking these were ‘girls’ topics. However, the program transformed my perspective. Before, I engaged in harmful behaviors like laughing at girls during menstrual accidents and making crude comments. Now, I understand the importance of respect and support, and this program has profoundly changed my behavior and outlook. And so just like I was transformed, I have taken it as my priority to help promote support for MHM and GBV prevention for girls in my community.
